I awoke suddenly, out of breath, my anxiety through the roof. I'd had the dream a few times before, and each time it evolved, added more to the story. And this time... I shuddered. I'm not one for prophecy or the divine or anything like that, but I couldn't help but to feel like this dream had some sort of meaning to it. Most people only have a single dream once, but not three times, not like this one.
The first time I had the dream, it was simple. I'm running, just running. There's nothing around me but the color white. No one is around. Just me. And I'm running. I have no destination or goal to achieve. I'm just running.
The second time I had the dream it developed a little more. I'm running again, though this time I can tell that I'm running upwards, like up a hill, but that's it. There's still nothing around me, no streets, buildings, plantlife. But, now there's a purpose. I'm running to get something that's on the other side of the hill. I have no idea who or what it is, but I need to get to the other side as quick as possible.
The third time I had the dream, the one from which I had just woken, was like watching a movie. It starts off my sister and I are running from someone. Something in my mind tells me that it's some sort of hostile force of people, like a military squad or something. We round the corner of a building in some downtown area of a city, go across the street and into another building. We turn right to go up a flight of stairs. As we round the corner on a platform about to take on the next flight, the scene suddenly changes...
...And I'm running, up a street shrouded in dust. The buildings that line the street are blurred from my vision. There's an orange-ish tinge, the dust of destroyed buildings maybe. I'm running up this street to get to the other side, and now I know what I'm running for. There's a voice on the other side shouting my name. 'Callie! Callie!' it calls. Whoever they are, they've got my sister, and I have to reach her as soon as possible. So I keep running.
Typing this out, I'm filled with the same unease that I felt after waking from the dream. This is a real dream I've had, and I've been exploring the possibility of turning it into a full-blown story, I just don't know where to go with it. I just know that there is a story and I'd like to write it.
By the way, my name isn't really Callie. I just put that in there for the sake of the story.
Let me know what you guys think of this little bit I've given you. I've got some ideas rolling around my head for how to possibly proceed but I'm always up for ideas.
